Vegetarians on the Upper West Side have plenty of restaurant options to choose from. So here’s a quick look at some of our favorite animal-free options for Manhattan residents.
Soomsoom Vegetarian Bar boasts some of the best (not to mention affordable) falafel on the Upper West Side. And to sweeten the deal Monday nights you can get a two for one special. So head down to 166 W 72nd St – but just keep in mind this Kosher establishment closes early on Friday and doesn’t open until 6pm Saturday.

Stroll down to 2427 Broadway for fresh and delicious Vegan eats at Candle Cafe West. You might want to make a reservation if you’re going for dinner though, because this place can get pretty packed (which should come as no surprise given the friendly staff and delicious menu).

Ayurveda Cafe has a great prix fixe menu consisting of 10 different items that are sure to expose you to a medley of tasty flavors and textures. And even though you get everything from appetizers to desserts, it’s incredibly affordable (lunch is only $9.95 and dinner is $13.95). So stop by 706 Amsterdam between 11:30am and 11:00pm to see what all the rage is about.
Quite simply, Doaba Deli is some of the best Indian food in Manhattan. And it’s priced to sell. So if you’re looking for a low-cost 100% vegetarian option that you can visit more than once a week, this spot at 945 Columbus Avenue will be a great fit for you. Just keep in mind it’s a small mom and pop shop so you might need to wait for a seat, depending when you stroll in. And don’t forget to bring cash.
Primo Pizza 84 is the best vegetarian and gluten freepizza option on the Upper West Side. There’s a ton of variety, an array of fresh ingredients and even a few vegan options. Although delivery across most of the UWS is available, in our experience it’s best to eat in. Drop by 57 W 84th Street for a one of a kind pizzeria experience.
