10 Free Summertime Events on the Upper West Side

Summertime is sweet here in New York City – with events, concerts, and festivals popping up all over the place it can sometimes get overwhelming. Luckily, if you live on the UWS, there’s plenty to do right in your own backyard! And best of all, a lot of it is FREE. So, get out, grab a friend, and enjoy the beautiful weather and community this summer.

1. July 14, 21, and August 4 – Naumburg Orchestral Concerts in Central Park. If you haven’t already been, this part of the park is iconic and beautiful. A concert only amplifies the ambiance.

2. Tuesdays at The Plaza at 66th Street from 6:30p-7:30p FREE Pilates in the Park, all levels of fitness enthusiasts encouraged! Go out, enjoy the weather this summer with a night sweat while building a strong core (and community!). There is also a free yoga class on Wednesday nights, same place and time.

3. Wednesdays, 8pm at Pier I, Summer on the Hudson (check out Summer on the Hudson). Bring a picnic, a friend, and a blanket and enjoy premier movies on the pier all summer long. To check out what is playing go to: http://www.nycgovparks.org/events/summer_on_the_hudson

4. Saturdays at 7p, Free Concerts hosted by the Riverside Clay Tennis Association at 97th St. on the Hudson. Come watch the sunset and a wide variety of music from jazz to bluegrass to Indian music and dance! Check out the full line-up here:http://www.rcta.info/rcta-concert-calendar.cfm

5. July 29th at 7p – The Mavericks present a show at Lincoln Center Out of Doors featuring a mix of cumber, merengue, and ranchera with jazz and rock.

6. July 31st at 7p – Brooklyn-based string duo perform – original pieces of classical music with a touch of vocals.

7. August 2 at 7p – concert hosted by the Caribbean Cultural Center; music and dancing you don’t want to miss!

8. August 5 at 7:30p – electric guitar quartet, need we say more? Rock and roll on a Wednesday to help you sail thru to the weekend!

9. August 7 at 10:45p – grab a date, for a classic horror movie date night! Rocky Horror will be showing silently in Damrosch Park (sound via wireless headphones!).

10. August 8 at 2p – Sam Outlaw is a sister trio that embodies classic country music
