11-year-old Ballerina Helping Her Doorman Get His Stolen Bike Back

Last month, 11-year-old Dylan Leder was on her way to ballet class at the renowned School of American Ballet when she witnessed three men stealing a motorcycle outside of her apartment at Waterline Square. When Leder found out the bike belonged to her doorman, Nazar, she started a GoFundMe campaign and held a bake sale to raise funds to buy him a new one.

“He’s 20 years old, newly married, he’s from Ukraine and has a lot on his mind since his family’s still in Ukraine,” said Leder in an interview with ABC7 New York. “I knew this was unfair; he didn’t deserve it.”

As of writing, the young ballerina who recently performed in Sleeping Beauty with the New York City Ballet has raised about $7,300 of the $8,500 goal.

Leder got some help from a nearby neighbor who also happens to work at Harry’s Table by Cipriani, next door to where she lives. Catharina Capps, who serves as marketing director at the food purveyor, donated all their baked goods for Leder’s bake sale while helping her set up the GoFundMe.

“The crew sold cookies and lemonade in return for a donation at the amount of the donor’s discretion,” reports AM New York. With the help of her friends Marlo Dronsick, Connor Provost and Sophie Becker, the scrappy young team with big dreams worked the table while handing out fliers with the GoFundMe QR code, which also had a picture of Nazar.

Owning a motorcycle had always been Nazar’s dream. Since it was stolen, the Brighton Beach, Brooklyn resident has been getting rides to work from his brother.

No stranger to helping neighbors, in 2016 Leder held a bake sale for the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center, raising over $1,000 in under an hour.

“Please help with whatever you can so we can reach our goal for him” writes Leder and Capps on their GoFundMePage.
