The goats are back in town. On July 14, 2021, a herd of 24 from an upstate farm showed up to entertain the media, public officials, and members of the general public at West 120th and Riverside Drive.
Of those who participated in the official “running of the goats,” only 5 will be staying for the summer, during which time they’ll be grazing on invasive plants between 119th and 123rd Streets in Riverside Park.

In addition to having the goats walk briskly in a line, the day’s festivities included live music and appearances by public officials Gale Brewer, Jerry Nadler, Mark Levine and Helen Rosenthal.
After the main events, the goats started getting comfortable with their new surroundings.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting us know about this event! I went to the running of the goats and am still amazed at how much fun it was to be there. It felt like a festival. This was only the second time they’ve had this event, and I’m fairly sure it will only become more and more popular each year, especially with families. Many thanks to Riverside Park Conservancy for turning something very simple into a lot of fun of the community.
