This will be the third restaurant under the Pig and Khao name. The first opened in 2012 at 68 Clinton Street where it was met with rave reviews from the New York Times, New York Magazine, and The Huffington Post. This was followed by their sister restaurant, Piggyback by Pig and Khao (located at 140 West 30th Street) in 2020.

The menu will feature a number of classics from the Lower East Side location including Papaya Salad, Khao Soi, Chili Pan Mee, Haninese Duck, and Sizzling Sisig. However, according to a press release, most of the menu will be new, “drawing inspiration from Leah’s training and travels throughout Thailand and Vietnam while also delving deeper into her Filipino heritage.”
These travels will also have a significant influence on the Southeast Asian night market-inspired décor, as Ben recently got back from a “sourcing trip to Vietnam and Thailand, returning with a curated selection of items from lighting and plateware to vintage signs and local artwork.”

The new Pig and Khao will be able to sit 96 people in total: 54 in the dining room, 6 at the chef’s counter, 12 at the bar, and 24 outside. In addition to its culinary offerings, Pig and Khao’s Upper West Side location will offer a cocktail tasting menu, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.
This expansion has been in the works for over a year, with Pig and Khao first presenting its plans to Community Board 7 in May 2023. Pig and Khao has announced further plans to open a Philadelphia location next year.
The space was previously home to RA Sushi, which closed in October 2022 (after rebranding from Haru Sushi about a year earlier).
