A Hefty Beer Theft

A reader of I Love The Upper West Side witnessed a group of four people shoplifting at the Duane Reade at 2683 Broadway, between 102nd and 103rd Streets, at about 8am on Thursday morning.

“They brought with them tote bags and a wheelie suitcase and they proceeded to ransack the shelves,” the reader told us, continuing to state that “They stole everything they could in a swift but focused manner.”

When the group exited the store, our reader saw a man – who appeared to have no connection to them – walk in and steal a large amount of beer.

We reached out to the NYPD’s press office and were told that a 56 year old male named James Robbins was arrested for Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. A complainant told the NYPD that Robbins had stolen several six packs of beer including Corona, Modelo and Heineken, worth an approximate collective value of $101. “The suspect was apprehended shortly after inside of the West 103 / Broadway Subway station,” the NYPD tell us.

Our reader points out that this Duane Reade recently hired security personnel, but an employee told our reader that they “don’t have security in the morning.”

It appears the original four shoplifters fled the scene successfully, as the NYPD had no comment about them.
