The new Indian restaurant’s owner is Salil Mehta, who is also behind southeast Asian restaurant Wau on 81st and Amsterdam. He is also the owner of Laut in Union Square, which was the first Malaysian restaurant to earn a Michelin star in NYC.

Mehta first presented his plans to Community Board 7 in April, at which time he expressed interest in creating a space where restaurant workers could congregate as the kitchen would be open late. Kebab aur Sharab will be open Tuesday – Sunday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will be closed on Mondays.

The featured items of Kebab aur Sharab are kebabs and other Indian street foods. Here’s the full menu.

The restaurant was given the ‘headliner’ position in the New York Times’ December 27 “Off The Menu” column, which states that the main dining room has 55 seats, the bar has another 18, and a sidewalk enclosure has another 20.

The Times writeup also notes that “Much of the food will be cooked in a tandoor clay oven,” including a butter chicken, a minced meat skewer, and a number of curries ad rice dishes.

The new restaurant’s website also showcases an elaborately designed interior which will likely make its rounds on Instagram.
