In the glory days of growing up, many of you might recall the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program. Started in 1984, the mission of BOOK IT! is for teachers to set reading goals for children; if they hit the mark, they get a free personal pan pizza from The Hut. Soon, Upper West Side teachers will have a local spot to pick up these incentivized rewards with the announcement that Pizza Hut is coming to 940 Columbus Avenue between West 106th and 107th streets.

Living in one of the greatest pizza territories in the world, chain-store ’za is probably not high on many of our “wish lists.” Looking at the silver lining, though, there is a little upside. For starters, late-night dining options have become fewer and further between since the pandemic. Pizza Hut provides quick eats you can pick up at a cost-effective rate.
Similar to Domino’s Pizza, always remember to use the Pizza Hut coupons—only suckers pay full price. Current deals include the $10 Tastemaker, which lets you choose three toppings for a large pizza on hand-tossed or Thin ’N Crispy crust. There’s also Pizza Hut’s Original Stuffed Crust with one topping for $13.99, or relive your youth with the BOOK IT! Bundle, which comes with two large pizzas and breadsticks for $23.99. It looks like they’re playing off nostalgia with that offer since no book reading credits need to be presented for that deal. Pizza Hut also has WingStreet Wings.
According to Pizza Hut’s website, this will be the fourth Pizza Hut in Manhattan. (Current locations include a Pizza Hut Express at 13 West 100th Street, at the Associated Supermarket.)
Dunkin’ Donuts is also moving into the neighborhood at 2600 Broadway between West 98th and 99th streets, the space formerly occupied by 16 Handles. (Thanks to Laurie Marshall of Trademarks the Spot for the tip.)
We’ll keep you posted when we learn when both of these locations will be opening. You’ve got some time to catch up on your reading.
I saw a Pizza Hut commercial the other day and I thought well at least we don’t have one of those. We have jets and Papa John’s and dominoes and other corporate garbage but not this one.
Please never use the word ‘za again, else your NYer credentials will be revoked.
God bless you, Ron. Anyone who uses “za” could turn me off to pizza eating forever!
And it’s still not ok to eat pizza with a knife and fork…
This is NOT pizza.
With the sorry state of pizza in Manhattan as of late, particularly on the UWS, thank God a gross place like the Hut is moving in to fill the void.
No one asked for this. LITERALLY NO ONE asked for this.
LITERALLY you’re WRONG. Some of us crave crappy pizza sometimes. Learn the meaning of “literally”, please.
I mean I love Pizza Hut…. nostalgia from my childhood. Not saying it’s good, but it’s definitely a guilty pleasure.
Where is the one on W 100th St? Don’t see that at all on their website…
It’s located inside associated Supermarket on 100th and Central Park west
Although this is correct: “Dunkin’ Donuts is also moving” into…”2600 Broadway between West 98th and 99th streets, the space formerly occupied by 16 Handles,” it is not correct that they are moving into the neighborhood. The Dunkin’ is now located between 96th and 97th Streets and is just moving a block uptown to a larger location.
