Whether your dad is near or far, you can share a little bit of New York flare with him on his special day. Every dad is unique – and that’s what makes them so special to us. Whether you cook with your dad, enjoy the outdoors, get pampered, or can talk for hours sharing special memories – we’ve complied a list of New York local things and places to share with the dad in your life.
For the beer dad:
Brooklyn Brewery (79 N 11th St. Brooklyn, NY) has everything from specialty micro-brews, t- shirts, mugs, and beer soap. Bring dad by to take a tour and enjoy a few beers, or pick out the perfect gift and ship it to the dad in your life wherever he may be (you can “cheers” via FaceTime!).
For the nostalgic dad with a sweet tooth:
Head over to Economy Candy (108 Rivington St, New York, NY) and get him his favorite childhood candy that he (and the rest of his generation) thought no longer existed. It’s oh-so- thoughtful, won’t break the bank, and will be sure to bring a smile (what candy doesn’t!?).
For the fitness dad:
Take dad to the lululemon athletica Men’s Store in Soho for a customized pair of athletic shorts. They can choose their color, length, and type of liner, and an in-house tailor will put them together for him while he enjoys a glass of whisky while watching the sports channel. This is the perfect gift to fuel dad’s healthy addiction.
For the foodie dad:
Go to www.bigonion.com/ and book the Father’s Day Multi-Ethnic Eating Tour. You’ll hit up Dominican, Jewish, Italian & Chinese foods on the Lower East Side. Also… Benjamin Steakhouse in Midtown and The Sea Fire’s Grill are both offering a prix-fixe menu with a $50 gift certificate to all dad’s who dine on Sunday.
For the pampered dad:
Make him an appointment at Harry’s Corner Shop – the best barber he wished he had always gone to. They boast the best barbers, logging clients previous visits electronically, and the coolest and manliest products for sale. You can even order a monogrammed razor and a variety of luxury shaving kits.
For the dad with the procrastinating kids:
Head over to amazon.com and order dad a coffee press with a bag of his favorite beans. For less than a 2 day turn around, we promise this won’t disappoint. It’s the back-to-the-basics, campfire style, rustic trendy way of making coffee. (And if you have time, get over to Porto Rico Importing Co (at 201 Bleeker) and really treat that man with the special coffee he always has wanted, but never knew about)!
And at the end of the day, what dad doesn’t enjoy a good ‘ole handmade card and “I love you, dad”.
