An Upper West Side resident – who goes by @an_uptown_girl on Instagram – decided to initiate a standing, at-home round of applause for frontline, essential employees putting themselves at risk every day.
She spread the word to other residents of her building, and last night, they clapped from the safety of their balconies.

The applause honored healthcare workers, grocery store and pharmacy employees, delivery workers, garbage men, mail carriers, public transit workers and everyone else working tirelessly and risking their lives so that we can be safe at home.
She hopes that people around NYC will follow suit, and that we will all clap from the safety of our apartments every evening at 8pm for those putting themselves at risk.

Maybe with a drink in your hand?
On the Eastside.
The Westside.
