Police have arrested 26 year old Brian Boyd in connection to the hit-and-run which killed 65 year old actress Lisa Banes in June.
Boyd has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, after reportedly passing through a red light at 64th and Amsterdam Avenue and striking Banes while on a motorized scooter. Police say that Banes, who died of her injuries ten days later, had the right of way, and that Boyd did not stop after striking her.
Police arrested Boyd on Thursday evening at his building, located at 90 Amsterdam Avenue – just steps from where the incident took place.
Following Banes’ death, local officials gathered on the street of the tragedy to hold a press conference to promote new legislation which would raise hit-and-runs by motorized scooters from class B misdemeanors (with up to 6 months jail time) to class B felonies (with up to 4 years jail time).
Born in 1955, Lisa Banes attended the Juilliard School before taking roles in over 80 films and television shows, including 2014 thriller Gone Girl.
