Studying is overrated. Plus, you can always do it later!  Let’s get down to the real point of college. These great bars near Columbia University are sure to keep you kiddos busy.

1020 Bar

1020 Amsterdam Ave (at 110th)

This Columbia bar is located on the corner of 110th and Amsterdam. Drinks are affordable and the bar has a pool table and dart board. Plus, trivia night will surely help your efforts in the classroom. For all these reasons and more, it gets busy on the weekends (which start on Thursday), so arrive early to claim a bar seat.

Lion’s Head Tavern

995 Amsterdam Ave (at 109th)

This bar has great prices on beer for the college budget. There are always specials including dollar beers, and they have awesome spicy chicken wings! Plus there’s a Monday-Friday happy hour from 5-8pm! It’s a small space where youngsters and locals alike enjoy catching sports games.

The Heights Bar & Grill

2867 Broadway (between 111th and 112th)

This two level Morningside Heights bar is located near Columbia Campus, between 111th and 112th on Broadway. The Heights has an upper level patio which is great for warm weather boozing.  Try the Vancouver fries and the nachos! If there’s no school (that you plan on attending) the next day, they have a daily late-night special from 11pm-2am which offers $5 frozen cocktails.

The Heights definitely has one of the best deals for frozen cocktails on the Upper West Side!

Mel’s Burger Bar

2850 Broadway (at 111th)

Located between 110th and 111th on Broadway, right next to the amazing giant slices of Koronet Pizza.  Yes, great pizza right next to yummy burgers. Mel’s also made our list of best burgers on the Upper West Side.  Great food and again extensive beers, plus they have a terrific website and digital presence which makes me want to give them money.
