The Best 4 Bars For Long, Quality Beer Lists

Last modified on January 30th, 2020

I love beer! These Upper West Side bars have the best and biggest selections in the neighborhood. Check out this list of local bars with impressive beer lists!

We would have included Beer Shop, but they sadly closed down recently.

Gebhard’s Beer Culture

228 West 72nd Street (between West End and Broadway)

I love this place. Gebhard’s offers 250 bottled beers and 16 craft-beer drafts as well as select craft whiskeys.  The upstairs game area features table hockey, a pool table, and even dart boards. They also sell bottles and growlers to go!

They also have a section called “Grampa’s Beers” which have old classics like Pabst and Schaefer. And I’ll admit it; these cheap beers were what first got me in the door. Though they’ve since raised their prices from when I took this photo.

George Keeley

485 Amsterdam Ave (between 83rd and 84th Streets)

Keeley’s has 23 beers on tap which are displayed on flatscreen TV’s above the bar. There’s also an exclusive “beer club” which you can qualify for after trying 100 different pints of beer from around the world. And if you have the ambition, double that number to join their “200 Pint Club”! Keeley’s is a great spot for bar grub, too. They sit right at the top of our list of best bars on the Upper West Side.

Amsterdam Ale House

340 Amsterdam Ave (corner of 76th)

Ale House has 31 drafts (with many rotating) and over 40 bottles and cans. This has been one of my go-to bars for years. Word of advice, though: if there’s a big show at the Beacon Theatre that night, don’t expect to get a seat.

Broadway Dive

2662 Broadway (between 101st and 102nd Streets)

This is my favorite of the “Dive Bars”, of which there are four (Dive 106 was the latest to open). Broadway Dive stocks over 400 canned and bottled beers, many of which folks get to go. Plus 23 on tap. The refrigerator of beer that you’ll see when you walk in is pretty mesmerizing. This NYC beer bar has a super cozy feel, and a really cool upstairs section (which I still haven’t sat in!).
