Let’s start with a place that’s most known for it’s grilled cheese. This invite-only pop up eatery has an extensive grilled cheese menu with specials including gruyere with swiss and French onion, swiss with parmesan and truffle, smoked gouda with fig, white cheddar with tomato bacon jam, and their baby Cuban.

Luke’s Lobster

426 Amsterdam Ave (between 80th and 81st Streets)

The sustainable seafood chain best known for its lobster rolls enters this list with their lobster and crab grilled cheese! That’s two separate sandwiches, just to be clear.

Both are served on toasted white bread with gruyere cheese and their secret seasoning.

Le Pif

This French wine bar offers a Parisian “Croque Monsieur” on their menu: Toasted brioche, gruyere, homemade béchamel, and Parisian ham.

Big Daddy’s

2454 Broadway (corner of 91st Street)

Okay – this one is an acquired taste. But we had to give them points for risk-taking.

Big Daddy’s is a retro diner with some pretty outrageous menu items (be sure to check out our list of best pancakes to see some more of this).

Two of their grilled cheese selections also fall into this category.

And the Bee Gee’s Mac N’ Grilled Cheese, which is stuffed with mac and cheese.

The locally-sourcing coffee roaster comes through strong on their grilled cheese game. Their classic grilled cheese comes with cheddar, swiss & dijon on their beautifully toasted sourdough bread.
