Let’s start with a place that’s most known for it’s grilled cheese. This invite-only pop up eatery has an extensive grilled cheese menu with specials including gruyere with swiss and French onion, swiss with parmesan and truffle, smoked gouda with fig, white cheddar with tomato bacon jam, and their baby Cuban.
426 Amsterdam Ave (between 80th and 81st Streets)
The sustainable seafood chain best known for its lobster rolls enters this list with their lobster and crab grilled cheese! That’s two separate sandwiches, just to be clear.
Both are served on toasted white bread with gruyere cheese and their secret seasoning.
2058 Broadway (between 70th and 71st Streets)
This French wine bar offers a Parisian “Croque Monsieur” on their menu: Toasted brioche, gruyere, homemade béchamel, and Parisian ham.
2454 Broadway (corner of 91st Street)
Okay – this one is an acquired taste. But we had to give them points for risk-taking.

The iconic burger maker, known for their straight-forward and delicious patties, also delivers with their no-nonsense grilled cheese. Add bacon and tomato if you wish!
