Big Gay Ice Cream will Open on 85th and Columbus!!

One of our readers, “JoJo NYC”, has just informed us that Big Gay Ice Cream, the popular downtown ice cream shop, will be opening up in the former home of the Birdbath Bakery at 518 Columbus Ave (at 85th Street).

The ice cream shop serves ready-made pints and soft-serve creations including cones, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, milk shakes and “gobblers” – a traditional pie flavor with soft serve, pie crumbs and whipped cream.

Big Gay Ice Cream was born in 2009 with a single ice cream truck. Today, it is massively popular. They’ve racked up almost 80,000 Instagram followers, and have been featured by uber influencers like Food Baby (and Food Baby’s dad, Mike J Chau), and on major platforms like Food & Wine, Eater, CBS, GQ Magazine and more.

Here are some teasers of what’s to come, courtesy of the ice cream shop’s Instagram page:

  • The Salty Pimp: vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche and salty dark chocolate.
  • The Dorothy: vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche and vanilla wafer cookie chunks.
  • American Globs: fudge-covered salted pretzel balls, fudge-covered pretzel pieces, a fudge swirl and malted sweet cream ice cream.

They currently have three NYC locations (East Village, West Village, South Street Seaport), as well as a location in Philadelphia.

We’ll provide an update once we have an idea of when they’ll be opening on the UWS!
