The townhouse once occupied by jazz icon Billie Holiday has hit the market for $13,995,000. The property, located at 26 West 87th Street, was last purchased for $9,475,000 in 2017.
Holiday, known as “Lady Day,” was a resident of 26 West 87th Street until her death in 1959. While living in apartment #1B, she released one of her most famous albums, Lady in Satin, in 1958.
The early 1900s 20-foot wide townhouse, which was fully renovated to retain its historic details, spans more than 6,300 square feet across six floors and comes with fourteen rooms, seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms, two powder rooms, six fireplaces and a garden.
There’s also a wine cellar and a media room with wallpaper by Lenny Kravitz.
The property is listed with celebrity broker Kelly Killoren Bensimon of Douglas Elliman — known for her work as an author, model, philanthropist, and TV personality, most notably on “The Real Housewives of New York City.”
Here’s a look at the listing.
Wow, are many of those rooms bad interiors.
And the marketing photos need work too. After the good first 2: They make the spaces, backyard included, look even deader than the interior design already did.
But the kitchen sure looks very functional, so that’s good. And the awful colour and carpets can be removed from other rooms.
Not much can be done about the bathroom absent spending 50-100K.
