The Blue Marble Ice Cream at 2058 Broadway (between 70th and 71st streets) has closed its doors.
The shop, which was the Brooklyn-based organic ice cream company’s third location (and second on the Upper West Side), opened in March 2022.
The now-empty space was previously home to Le Pif, a wine bar, which closed in September 2020. Before them, the space was occupied by Red Frog, another wine bar by the same owners.
Blue Marble Ice Cream’s outpost at 2578 Broadway (97th Street) is still up and running. This one opened in March 2021, replacing Earth Cafe.
Those seeking an alternative in the immediate area have Van Leeuwen at 253 Columbus Ave (between 71st and 72nd streets), Häagen-Dazs at 263 Amsterdam Ave (between 72nd and 73rd streets), and Pinkberry at 2041 Broadway (between 70th and 71st streets).
Blue Marble Ice Cream’s co-founder is Jennie Dundas, who’s also a successful actress who’s had roles in The First Wives Club and Law and Order: Criminal Intent, among other movies and TV shows.

We feel very gratified to have participated in the revitalization of this very special quadrant of the Upper West Side during a difficult stretch of the pandemic, and we couldn’t be happier that a company we have long admired, @joecoffeecompany, will be taking over this very special space (aiming to open by Labor Day). See you this summer and beyond at our 97th & Bway location!”– Jennie Dundas

Wow! I went by last night and the sign in the window said “sorry we had to close early”. That made it sound like it was for the day not for forever – but looking in the windows it very much looked like forever. So sad!
Well, the ice cream really isn’t very good.
They make up for that by being overpriced.
Jon Delfin:
That too.
Aw that’s really a shame. I loved their strawberry flavor!
tastes fake, like no other strawberry ice cream.
For my money, nothing beats Haagen Dazs strawberry flavor – fresh and real.
M:
Yes, that’s plenty good. But there are others. L’Arte del Gelato for example, more expensive and NYC only.
