Police have released video of a burglar breaking into a brownstone on West 89th between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue on June 24 around 1am. The video was captured from a home surveillance system installed in the building.

The owner of the brownstone – an unidentified 45 year old female – was reportedly sleeping in another room while the intruder lurked around.
NYPD sources say the thief stole a Macbook Pro valued at $2,400.
The suspect is currently at large, and police are asking those with information to call 1-800-577-TIPS or send @NYPDtips a direct message on Twitter. A reward of $3,500 is being offered for any tip which leads to the man’s arrest.

And laptops (even if the MBPs) are not valued at how much they cost retail, even if they were purchased 6 months ago.
If the owner had a video camera security system, it seems odd that the wasn’t some kind of security system able to detect breakins.
