Central Park Taekwondo on the Upper West Side is the neighborhood’s premier martial arts school for children and adults. Taekwondo is the most widely practiced discipline in the martial arts world and it means “the way of the hand and foot”. Read below to learn all about the special promotion they’re running for the month November!
The school was founded on the tenets of Harmony, Unity, and Community with the last one signifying the value of having a group of people working together to achieve a shared goal. The instructors at Central Park Taekwondo believe this common interest or objective is crucial for the independent success of each student. It’s imperative for the student to feel the support of their respective community in order to overcome challenges.
The environment at Central Park Taekwondo is supportive and welcoming to everyone. It’s the perfect place for those who have no previous experience in the martial arts. The good-hearted nature of owner Master Teresa Throckmorton exemplifies the sense of union and encouragement that exists within each instructor. Throckmorton is a 5th degree black belt Master Instructor who is officially certified by the World Taekwondo Federation and the Kukkiwon. She makes sure students follow the rules of the World Taekwondo Federation School for competitions with a level of expertise that’s unparalleled.

This November, Central Park Taekwondo on the Upper West Side is making their FITensity classes free all month long! FITensity consists of a circuit-based workout that runs for 30 minute at a time with flexible break intervals. The class provides some great aerobic exercise with its mix of choreographed Taekwondo movements and non-stop beat stomping music. You’ll get to train with the program’s lead Masters and Instructors for free and learn about other classes that are taught at CPTKD such as taekwondo, Brazilian jujitsu, fitness, self-defense, and more. After trying the FITensity program you’ll come out feeling more confident and empowered.
You can explore other possibilities at CPTKD by becoming a member or joining the monthly Taekwondo program. Their specialized TKD Fitness classes are designed for teenagers and adults who want to burn fat while also building tone and muscle. These energizing classes are all about increasing one’s own coordination and reflexes which always comes in handy. Some of the Fitness classes currently being offered include TKD Endurance which focuses on training through the tenet of Perseverance and the Indomitable Spirit. The class aims to increase mental stamina while burning unwanted fat away. Another TKD class, TKD Kickboxing, teaches students Muay Thai fighting techniques that combine punch/kick moves using both the elbows and the knees. All of the TKD classes build cardio endurance and improve strength and mental health.
Some of the other courses revolve around Self-Defense, which is open to students of all ages, or Sparring, which prepares students to go on and compete in national tournaments. The self-defense class teaches the necessary defense techniques one needs to venture out into the world with more confidence.
