Andrew Cuomo has announced his resignation as Governor of New York State. This will take effect in 14 days, at which point Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will take the reins. Hochul, 62, will become the state’s first female governor, and will serve through 2022.
While Cuomo denied the multiple allegations of sexual harassment against him, he concluded he should step aside to avoid impeachment hearings.
Cuomo began his Tuesday announcement by stating that “The most serious allegations made against me had no credible factual basis in the report, and there is a difference between ‘alleged improper conduct’ and concluding sexual harassment.”

“Now, don’t get me wrong,” he continued. “This is not to say that there are not eleven women who I truly offended. There are. And for that, I deeply, deeply apologize. I thought a hug, and putting my arm around a staff person while taking a picture was friendly, but she found it to be too forward. I kissed a woman on the cheek at a wedding, and I thought I was being nice, but she felt that it was too aggressive. I have slipped, and called people ‘honey,’ ‘sweetheart’ and ‘darling’; I meant it to be endearing, but women found it dated, and offensive.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said, adding that he’s been “too familiar with people” and that he’s always hugged and kissed people casually, both women and men.
Andrew Cuomo first became governor after wining the gubernatorial election in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014 and again in 2018.
Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, is a former attorney who’s served as Lieutenant Governor of NY State since 2015. In 2011, she became the first Democrat to represent the district of Erie County in 40 years. Learn more about her at kathyhochul.com.
Due process is dead.
He made the right decision to spare the people a mud fight but apparently being innocent until proven guilty is a dead concept in the media. All it takes are allocation to “prove” guilt.
Remember congressman Gary Condit? EVERYONE was SURE he murdered his intern and he was shamed out of office. He wasn’t even a formal suspect or charged.
It’s all fun and games until it’s YOU who are charged with a crime.
I hope he’s allowed his day in court. If he’s found guilty then punish him. Not before.
I think he should’ve been punished for being responsible for the deaths of the elderly in the homes. Also, he has blood on his hands for his being soft on crime and allowing violent criminals off the hook. He made our state a dangerous one. I wish deblasio would’ve stepped down too. He was and still is a disgrace
Correct you are. This affair reminds me of Al Capone being jailed for tax evasion rather than the numerous crimes including murders he ordered if not participated in. If you get Cuomo for the nursing home debacle, several nearby governors would follow. This administration does not want that.
I absolutely agree with you – and I’ve also made the analogy of Capone and his taxes. Cuomo became a political liability and therefore he had to go, but he had to go for something that wouldn’t taint the Party Machine, not state-wide, and not nationally.
I’ll call BS on your comment. Everyone made mistakes at the start of the pandemic. At least he recognized it and made changes that saved thousands of lives. Unlike the former Commander in Thief who doubled down on his stupidity and continues his unethical depravity. It’s a sorry world we live in that someone like Cuomo can be brought down because he hugged people. Give me a frigging break.
No they did not all make mistakes. DeSantis barred entry to nursing homes early on without strict testing and other regulatory hurdles. Cuomo prohibited testing for Covid prior to admission. We know the result of that “mistake” despite the attempted cover-up.
