A spring weekend in the city is always a treat. If you’re lucky, you may get to sleep in, enjoy a casual stroll through the neighborhood and partake in the best part of Saturday or Sunday afternoons: brunch. Now, there’s plenty to wax poetic about brunch — from eggs served in the afternoon to the possibility of a mimosa or two — but many restaurant-goers have a particular gripe: Why is there no equivalent during the week? Luckily, thanks to the Upper West Side’s own Dagon, this is all about to change.

Prominently located at 2454 Broadway at the corner of West 91st Street, the Israeli and Mediterranean restaurant has become a full-fledged culinary destination since opening its doors back in 2021 — even earning the title of “best new NYC restaurant of the pandemic” from the NY Post (and just a ridiculous amount of praise from the media). Due to the soaring popularity of their weekend brunch (from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays), they have done New York a solid and will now be offering it throughout the week (Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Oh, and this includes the option to order bottomless mimosas for $24 per person (available in orange, peach and passionfruit). Cheers to warm weather!

Though the robust menu of brunch classics with an Israeli spin will suit even diners with the pickiest of palates, particular highlights include the Israeli Breakfast plate (including two eggs any style with hummus, labneh, Israeli salad, smoked salmon, olives, feta cheese, potatoes, orange juice and a bagel), the Cinnamon Halvah French Toast and their signature tuna sandwich, a fan-favorite that TikTok swears by.

The fun doesn’t stop there — as there’s a range of egg dishes (including a dreamy shakshuka), a Benedict section, salads, other sandwiches and savory entrées like chicken schnitzel and everything crusted salmon. Items range from $6 to $26, making this a modestly-priced option suitable for families and group gatherings.

It should come as no surprise that locals, including our own readers, have been singing Dagon’s praises since the day it opened.

“The salmon is outrageously good and of course the hummus is a must,” wrote one ILTUWS reader. “Their breads are so fresh, warm and yummy, sit at the bar near the cozy open oven and watch the staff baking up the loaves to perfection.”

“Best addition to the UWS for high quality, innovative Mediterranean fare,” another one of our reader’s noted. “Don’t pass up the bread, especially the kubaneh, which is one of the best breads that will ever meet your mouth. The crudo is startlingly delicious, as is salmon with pomegranate glaze, beef kebabs, Jerusalem bagel overflowing with sesame seeds, the fattoush salad, and pretty much every bite of food I’ve had there.”
