Back in July 2021, a campaign was launched to restore the iconic neon sign at Dublin House, which dates back to 1933 — the same year the bar opened as a legal pub at 225 West 79th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
“Our neon dates back to 1933 when John Caraway commissioned E.G Clarke Inc. to design it – which would rank it among the oldest in the city,” read a post on the bar’s Instagram page last year. “After [having] been closed for [the] majority of 2020 we are blessed to be able to reopen our doors but we are in need of help to bring this iconic neon back shining.”

The campaign’s goal was $15,000, a goal which was quickly crushed after loyal patrons banded together and raised a grand total of $20,175.
The campaign was launched by Jeff Friedman of neon sign company Let There Be Neon, who also managed the sign’s restoration.
Now, the light is ready to shine for the first time in three years. A special lighting event with live entertainment will be taking place on Saturday, March 5 at 9pm. “We hope everyone that contributed will come and celebrate with us,” wrote Dublin House in an Instagram announcement.
