“Five mallard ducklings were orphaned when their mom was killed by a snapping turtle in Central Park”, a recent Instagram post by Wild Bird Fund reads.
Following the unfortunate incident on Wednesday, the Urban Park Rangers made several unsuccessful attempts to find the ducklings. But on Thursday, they found and rescued them at the Central Park Pool, located near 101st Street on the West Side.

The ducklings were brought to the Wild Bird Fund Center at 565 Columbus Avenue, between 87th and 88th Streets.
The five orphaned Mallard ducklings are now boxed and on their way to the nearby @wildbirdfund where they will receive excellent care until they are ready to survive on their own in the park! pic.twitter.com/QapdLl09rP
