El Gallo Taqueria will start slinging its tacos this month at 502 Amsterdam Avenue, between 84th and 85th Streets. The owners tell us they plan to open on November 16.

The space they’ll be taking over was once home to Harriet’s Kitchen, which closed its doors in early 2019 – marking the end of an era which began in 1989. Here’s a quick look at the reimagined storefront.
El Gallo Taqueria opened its first location in the Gravesend area of Brooklyn in 2017 and now has a second storefront in Nolita. The Upper West Side location will be offering dine-in counter service, take-out and delivery.

Funny how the photos do not show a taco…only a burrito looking thing, ( Not Mexican) French fries (not Mexican) and “tortas” made with sesame seeds rolls which are not what tortas are made with.
Could be good. I think the new tacqueria that’s just like this one on West 94th St is on life support. I never see anyone in there and half the time you walk by you can’t tell if it’s open or closed. Amsterdam near Mamouns is a better location.
Mamouns is on Columbus. Amsterdam is still a better location though.
After taking a peek at the menu, this place looks more promising than interesting. They definitely have some traditional Mexican items like tacos de lengua, birria and suaderos (tacos made like in Mexico City) . I look forward to sampling their menu as many Mexican restaurants on the uws really do not capture the essence of authentic Mexican.
