Mexican restaurant Empellón Taqueria will be opening a location at Waterline Square, Eater has announced. It is expected to open in the fall at 655 West 59th Street.
The upcoming restaurant will have 3,300 square feet of interior space and a 1,500 square foot outdoor seating area.
Empellón Taqueria currently has a location in the West Village, at 230 West 4th Street. Mexican food fans who live in this part of town will now have a second option (as Rosa Mexicano’s Lincoln Center restaurant isn’t too far from here).
Their new restaurant will be opening along with Waterline Square’s Cipriani and the nearby Morton Williams at One West End Ave.

Brunch includes a breakfast taco with migas, salsa and cheese, a scrambled egg queso fundido, avocado toast with eggplant, and a mortadella torta with avocado and chipotle. And some cool cocktails. Like a coconut milk cold brew with tequila, as well as their “Juice Cleanse” with Reposado Tequila, Agave and nopal juice.
Both brunch and dinner menus offer some unique tacos. Pastrami, red chile duck and lamb are a few of the fillings.
You’ll also find quite a few margaritas on their cocktail menu (one with scotch in it), a small beer list (only one IPA), and several wines and rosés.
