Extinction Rebellion NYC
Over the weekend, activists from Extinction Rebellion – a UK-founded environmental movement known for staging large-scale protests and using mass arrests to get attention – occupied two major NYC cultural institutions for several hours. One of their targets was the American Museum of Natural History.

“The #AMNH exhibits are outdated and does not align well with the urgent #biodiversity loss and #ecological crisis that we are in. We must #ActNow!” the group wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Activists laid on the ground both inside the museum and on the institution’s steps, holding signs with messages like “Earth is calling out for help” and newspaper articles about species which have gone extinct.

“Your duties go beyond mere preservation of heritage. You have a duty to educate and empower the public, at a time when our elected leaders and media consistently fail to do so,” the group wrote in a statement to cultural institutions.
Another protest was held at the Guggenheim Museum on the Upper East Side’s Museum Mile.
While NYPD officials confirmed with the New York Post that 13 activists had been arrested over the weekend, it wasn’t immediately clear how many were arrested at each site. A representative from AMNH tells ILTUWS that none of the arrests took place at the museum on Central Park West, though police were called to the scene.

So, they get arrested – what has this accomplished? The exact opposite! Their behavior requires more cop cars to use more fuel, and more paperwork in the police department, more paperwork in the court system, more energy spent going through the court system, more travel by these “protesters” to go back and forth to the court, more energy consumed to publish this article and store it on the internet, more calls on their cell phones to their attorneys or family, more charging of the cell phone battery, I can keep going.
The AMNH has so called “duties”? These buffoons have a duty to stay home, STFU, and stop appointing themselves judges and jury to their self-nominated institutional evil-doing du jour.
you’re an idiot. by this logic, using a truck to install a wind turbine is a net negative.
The only loser here is the person who doesn’t understand how the world works. Trucks don’t install wind turbines, they carry the parts. People install wind turbines.
Before you type, perhaps you should read and educate yourself. You’re probably one of the people who bought an electric car and thinks they are contributing to offset “climate change.” But I digress…

Protesting the people on your side will always make you look like an extremist, and undermine your cause. If even the AMNH, which is certainly dedicated to educating people about the world and climate change, is not “good enough” for you, then it starts looking like you’re just unreasonable.
I swear sometimes I think these people must be paid by the oil companies to make climate activists look bad.
What makes you think AMNH is on the side on the side of climate activists?
All it takes is one glance at their board of trustees to understand that’s not remotely true.
