Fire Rips Through UWS Laundromat

An early morning fire caused extensive damage to the first floor retail space of an Upper West Side apartment building.

FDNY officials say they received a call at 6:04 a.m. Friday about a first floor fire at 224 West 82nd Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue), a four story building with a laundromat on its ground floor (New Westside Cleaners).

A total of 12 units and 60 fire and EMS personnel showed up to the scene of the fire, which was deemed under control at 6:36 p.m.

Fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the incident. No injuries were reported.
