Folk Art on the Broadway Malls

Last modified on June 1st, 2021

Lincoln Square BID and the American Folk Art Museum will be partnering to create Folk Art on the Broadway Malls, which will involve new artwork at several Broadway Mall barriers in the West 60s.

This new project is also in cooperation with Art in the Parks, the public art program spearheaded by NYC Parks.

There will be seven painted murals in total. Broadway Mall locations will include 60th, 64th, 67th, and 70th streets.

The original designs of these paintings come from artists Dresser Johnson and Sarah Ann Garges.

Johnson’s design consists of a flower basket, which is meant to symbolize the open public space of the neighborhood.

The work from Garges is originally a quilt design which is supposed to symbolize the warmth of the neighborhood.

The murals will be painted on Friday, October 12th between 9:30am and 5:00pm.
