New Food on the Upper West Side

We’ve had a bunch of exciting restaurant openings in the past few months, and we’ve gotten a chance to check them out: Earth Cafe, Sugarcane, the new uptown Halal guys, and our own branch of Parm! Here’s an early word on how they’ve been.

I was surprised by the warm, buttery smell inside the Earth Cafe at 97th and Broadway, which specializes in coffee and espresso drinks and a variety of homemade sweet or savoury pastries likes croissants and quiche. Although they smelled amazing, I stopped by just for a cup of regular coffee, and it was very good. They also have a variety of milk options, a chill atmosphere, and they let people hang out. I definitely plan to stop by for a snack soon, and it’s a great close place to just read, away from home distractions.

Red Stone’s story started over 10 years ago here in the heart of New York City. After a long career developing brands and concepts for other ‘fast food’ companies, owners Tony Tertiropoulos (born and raised in Greece) and Vera Giannaris (Manhattan native) realized that too much time was invested in expanding quickly and not enough on serving quality food to the community. They wanted a place where they could feed their own kids without feeling guilty, and so, they embarked on a mission to take their time and prepare real, home-cooked and healthy food for their neighbors.
