Friedmans has opened its newest location at 35 West End Avenue, between 61st and 62nd Streets.
In August, a sign in the window read that the eatery would be opening by fall. And it actually did!
The newest Friedmans is open for take-out, delivery and dine-in. Hours are Monday – Friday from 11am-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-9pm. They also have an all day kids menu! Learn more and download the menus here.
Founded in 2009, Friedmans is a family-owned and operated business with another Upper West Side location at 130 West 72nd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, which opened in 2018. They’ve also got an outpost near Columbia University at 1187 Amsterdam Ave, between 118th and 119th Streets.
With eight locations now, Friedmans has become a popular NYC destination for its gluten-free fare, all day breakfast, and wholesome sandwiches and salads.
It’s amazing to see actual expansions during these continuing difficult times for restaurants. Especially when it’s a family-run business.
Another similar (though smaller) family restaurant business expanded in early October with the opening of Calaveras Corner. This came from the owners Calaveras Cafe, which they brought to the neighborhood in January 2020.

Unfortunately the Columbia location never re-opened since closing in March for the pandemic. One of the few restaurants in the area that has remained closed.
