Haven UWS
The latest addition to the Upper West Side dining scene is Haven, which opened last week at 226 West 79th Street (between Amsterdam and Broadway). The space was formerly home to Burkes & Wills and has been fully renovated.

Haven’s menu offers an array of items from different cultures to reflect owner Brian Staub’s experience in New York. Some highlights include General Tso’s Chicken Lollipops, Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Falafel Burgers, and BBQ Lasagna (a daily special currently available on Mondays).
“It’s New York food,” Staub told ILTUWS. “New Yorkers love their Japanese food, their tacos, their pasta. We want to be able to incorporate elements of all that into one menu but make it cohesive.”
Staub also cited the influence of his family’s recipes on Haven’s menu – none more obvious than Grandma Sylvia’s Noodle Kugel, which the menu simply describes as “Her exact recipe; it was never broken, so we didn’t fix it.”
Haven’s beverage menu offers a selection of wines, craft cocktails and non-alcoholic choices. Highlights include several nods to the neighborhood like the M79 Mule, West Sidecar, and Apthorpe Spritz.
Early reviews are positive, with diners citing the restaurant’s Butterscotch Risotto, Everything Spiced Tuna, the Haven Burger, and the Chocolate Babka Sundae as dishes that hit the mark.
Haven is currently open for dinner with plans to expand its hours in 2024. Check out Haven’s website at HavenUWS.com for more details on the menu and drink offerings.
