On Monday, July 27, I Love The Upper West Side broke the story about the registered sex offenders living at Hotel Belleclaire. While the ‘sex offender’ label can mean a number of different things, it’s important to note that some of the victims of these Belleclaire residents were 12 years old or younger, with the youngest listed victim just 4 years old.
UPDATE (8/9/2020): Helen Rosenthal Clarifies Stance on Belleclaire Sex Offenders
Helen Rosenthal sent out an email newsletter addressing the issue (among other issues) on Wednesday, July 29. Her tone at this time, per the email, was that she’d fight to remove all sex offenders from the hotel.

“Commissioner Banks has confirmed that all level 3 sex offenders have been moved out of the Belleclaire. And I am demanding that all remaining offenders be moved out as well .”
Here is a link to the full email (scroll down to the 8th paragraph).
But on Friday, July 31, Helen Rosenthal seemed to completely change her stance during an interview with ABC 7’s Derick Waller, simply stating that “this is very temporary, you know, in the same way that we have to understand that COVID is temporary.” Helen’s segment can be seen towards the end of this video:
We first contacted Helen Rosenthal about the registered sex offenders living at Hotel Belleclaire on July 27. We’ve now followed up to ask why her stance on this matter has changed so much – and so quickly.
She has not responded any of our requests for comment. We will provide an update if and when she does.

Helen will never hold elected office again. She has been way too useless for way too long. At this point, she could care less about the community she supposedly represents she won’t be missed .
too bad we cant kick he now …
Looks like, in addition to deBlasio, Rosenthal has sold out her constituents for political purposes inside the machine. (Clearly she was told to shape up by the local version of the Deep State.)
Once upon a time, politicians were elected to serve the people. Now the people are being told how they will live by the current denizens of those political positions.
The original, #1 role of government: 1) to provide military to protect against the common enemy and 2) provide police to protect us from each other. All else is optional/additional – education, social services, etc.
NYC ‘government under current ‘leadership’ ignores its primary purpose and instead sacrifices constituent well-being for its own selfish political agenda. Our role is merely as tax slaves.
She’s terrible! I have on a number of occasions written her about local issues and she does not respond. Thank goodness for term limits.
Upper Westside residents claim to be liberal, accepting and charitable.
Whining hypocrites. Stop complaining and be part of a solution. Do something constructive to help the situation. More help and charity. Like it or not these are New Yorkers that are not as fortunate as you but many are kind, decent people. Take a few minutes to meet and speak with a few of them. Not everyone inherits wealth.
These petitions are reminiscent of conservative Trump supporters complaining about Immigrants and walls.
This is not about the less fortunate, it’s about convicted level 3 sex offenders who by law are not allowed to live within 1,000 feet of a grammar school
What are you the thought police ! It’s legitimate to support any presidency Candidate and It’s also ok not to
Want. Crime and drugs in your home . We pay 50% tax in n.y and night property tax ! O most other cities doesn’t have it ! It’s de blasio issue and failure !
Not In My Backyard!
Put sex criminals and drug addicts in your house i don’t want them in my house ! And I am not double standard and Hippocrates like you and say it loud and clear ‘! What is your address? I cam send them your place ! I will pay for the relocation ! Deal ?
In the 80’s The Belleclaire used to be haven for pimps and sex workers, trans and otherwise. Also drug dealers and users. For those who lived this lifestyle it was a great safe place to be. The Carny workers used to stay there too, when they were in town. The front desk was run by a family that were very kind and permissive as well. It has always been a strange place and even now it is catering to “undesirables”. I am assuming these sex offenders are under supervision.
Comments about Helen Rosenthal are
totally offensive. She has been responsive to the constituents in ways large and small. The issue of the Homeless in the three hotels cited is obviously concerning. It is not a black and white issue ( or is it). I believe the groups who are marshaling are pointing out legitimate concerns which must be addressed, but Helen does not deserve to be castigated in the outrageous way some have resorted to.
Actually, it’s Mrs. Rosenthal who is totally offensive. She picks and chooses her causes, based on how it helps HER. Phony.
The comments are mild compared to what they should be. She has completely disregarded the welfare of the senior citizens and elderly who are completely overlooked in any debate about the neighborhood.
Amen
Exactly.
,
Excuse me but think some are confusing her with ”Linda” they share the same last name.
Compassionate Helen (a working mother, wife) is not part of the ”clique” and rarely gets any credit. All of this housing the homeless mishmash predates her, dig deeper know the history some local career politicians have done very well and yet the homeless issue is ever expanding?
We know exactly who we’re talking about. We’re talking about the incompetence that is Helen Rosenthal, not Linda.
