Ice Skater with Trump Flag Tackled at Wollman Rink

On Sunday – which was expected to be this year’s last day of business for Wollman Rink – a man skating with a “Trump 2024” flag found himself on some thin ice.

The man, Dion Cini, says it was just about the Trump flag – but the self-described “Guerilla Marketeer, Founder of OperationFlagDrop and Professional Provacatuer” is no stranger to getting kicked out of places – with both Jake’s Dilemma and Disney World on his resume.

Cini tweeted a video of the incident which shows him unfolding the flag at the edge of the rink before skating in circles to the initial sound of mostly boos (and Britney Spears classic “Baby One More Time” … #FreeBritney!). At about the 2 minute mark, a mostly inaudible confrontation lead staff members to tackle Cini, after which the sound of cheers erupted from the crowd.

After being brought to the ground, Cini was removed from the area by police.

RENDERINGS: THE FUTURE WOLLMAN RINK

Cini told the Daily Dot that he brought the flag because it was supposed to be the Trump Organization’s last day of operating the ice skating rink, and he “wanted to celebrate another Trump accomplishment while also starting a campaign push for 2024.” He also told the publication that “he went to the hospital for injuries to his back, neck, jaw, and knee,” though a request for comment from Wollman Rink was not returned.

The Trump Organization has managed both Wollman and Lasker Rinks since the 1980s. Following the January 6 capitol riots, NYC announced it would be terminating the company’s contracts and would soon begin seeking new operators.

The City more recently announced it would be ending the contracts early, but after protests from New Yorkers, they reversed course and decided to keep them open for the rest of the season.

NYC is still seeking proposals for new Wollman Rink operators, which are due March 19.
