An injured swan named Bae was recently taken for a subway ride from Jamaica to the Upper West Side, to ultimately arrive at the Wild Bird Fund at 565 Columbus Avenue, between 87th and 88th Streets.
A former Wild Bird Fund employee, Ariel Cordova-Rojas, encountered the swan when she was riding her bike in Jamaica Bay.
“I just couldn’t leave her there” — former WBF rehabber Ariel Cordova-Rojas, who came upon a sick mute swan while birding on her bike @jamaicabaywr. Ariel didn’t know that others had reported the swan days before, but volunteers hadn’t been able to find her.

And then it was just another Thursday in NYC when someone rides the train with a bicycle and a gigantic swan. (Yawn!) pic.twitter.com/mr5krXNmUW

The swan is now being tested for lead toxicity and infections, and will hopefully be able to return to Jamaica Bay soon.

She’s lucky it didn’t attack her. Those things are MEAN as snakes, and very aggressive. It must have been quite ill or injured.
