Celebrate the 13th annual Japan Day in Central Park on Sunday, May 12th at the Bandshell (entrance at 69th and Fifth Avenue). This is a free spring event designed to promote a deeper understanding of Japanese culture.
Japan Day Activities
- the Japan Run, a 4-mile mini-marathon (from 8am to 9:30pm)
- Japanese traditional and family-friendly activities
- free samples of popular Japanese cuisine
- powerful stage performances throughout the day.
Cherry Trees
Since 2009, Japan Day has also collected donations to plant 24 new cherry trees in Central Park, supplementing and replacing the trees from Japan’s original gift over one hundred years ago.
