Japan Day is an annual festival celebrating Japanese culture, art, tradition and food. This year, the celebration will take place in the form of a parade for the very first time — and George Takei will be the grand marshal!

According to event organizers, this will also be the first parade in NYC to honor the Japanese people and their heritage.

The parade will take place on Saturday, May 14 beginning at 1pm; the route will be from 81st to 68th Street along Central Park West.

And, from 1pm-4:30pm, a street fair will take place at 67th and Central Park West.

The parade’s MC will be CNN correspondent Sandra Endo, and there will be performances by drum ensemble Soh Daiko; the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of NY; dance group 10tecomai; International Karate Organization Kyokushin Kaikan; sword fighting and stage combat training dojo TATE Hatoryu; Japan Performing Arts and more.
