Last month, 5.2 million viewers tuned into the 23rd season premiere of Law & Order — and we’re willing to bet quite a few of those households were in New York City. After all, the flagship series in Dick Wolf’s procedural drama empire is a gritty love letter to the Big Apple — and now, it’s heading uptown to film an upcoming episode.

On Wednesday, March 6 (commencing at 6 a.m.), the perennially popular show will shoot scenes on 90th Street and West End Avenue, according to flyers posted around the neighborhood (a Twitter user was the first to share the news).
After an 11-year hiatus, Law & Order returned in February 2022 to much fanfare and acclaim (and even filmed at several Upper West Side locations in the West 70s). The current season, while well-received, brought a major casting shakeup: Sam Waterston (who starred as iconic District Attorney Jack McCoy since 1994, appearing in a staggering 404 episodes) bid adieu to his longtime gig after the February 22 show titled “Last Dance.” With growing frustration due to corrupt politics within city leadership, McCoy resigns. Tony Goldwyn, former Scandal star, has been tapped to step into Waterston’s brown loafers as the new D.A. in town — but he has big shoes to fill. After all, Waterston’s McCoy became so legendary, the New York Landmarks Conservancy declared him a “Living Landmark.”
Though we’re unsure of the plot of the episode being filmed, the Upper West Side has played host to plenty of Law & Order episodes over the years (here’s a comprehensive list of locations throughout Manhattan, if you’re interested). Even Olivia Benson (the beloved detective portrayed by Mariska Hargitay on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) previously shacked up in the nabe, spending years in a one-bedroom apartment on West 89th. In real life, Hargitay’s a fan of the good ole UWS as well — she sold her six-story townhouse for $9.75 million back in 2019.
You can watch Law & Order on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC (insert “dun-dun” sound effect here).
DUCK when you see them drones!
