Taconic Partners and Nuveen Real Estate have announced plans to develop a life sciences hub at 125 West End Avenue, located at 66th Street.
Taconic purchased the 8-story building as part of a $220 million package from Silverstein Properties in 2019. The purchase also came with 320 West 66th Street and an adjacent lot which comes with 105,575 of development rights.
The Walt Disney Company / ABC have occupied the sites since 1985.
A newly launched website describes the future center at 125 West End Avenue as “New York’s Most Dynamic Life Sciences Development,” adding that the 400,000 square foot space will be home to “research and discovery, therapeutic advancements, and enhancing the quality of life.”
Taconic Partners’ website states that the building will feature “open floor plates, a high performance façade, robust mechanical infrastructure, and unique amenities serving future tenants. Building on Taconic’s previous experience and intimate knowledge of this sector, 125 West End Avenue will mark the next milestone in the growth of Manhattan’s West Side life sciences cluster.”
According to Real Estate Weekly, the developers plan to begin the redevelopment process when ABC vacates the properties in January 2021, and expect construction to be complete by 2023. The publication also states that the new building will include a roof garden, conference rooms and a high-performance facade, and that Taconic is currently evaluating development options for the remainder of the site.
