Longtime UWS Business, Broadway Pest Services, Relocates to Nearby Storefront

After serving the Upper West Side for 25 years, Broadway Pest Services closed down its shop at 782 Amsterdam Avenue (between 98th and 99th streets) on April 1.

The popular pest control practice – which has been in business since 1970 and has a 4.9-star Google score, which is actually insane (more on this shortly) – has relocated to South Harlem and will be celebrating its grand opening at 69 Saint Nicholas Avenue (at 114th Street) on Friday, April 19 from 3 p.m. until early evening.

(They’ve also secured an office space at 213 West 35th Street, Room 802A, where customers can pick up online orders.)

The first fifty customers to show up on Friday will receive a completely free pest control item; no purchase necessary. “We want people to see our products as they’re hard to find elsewhere,” owner Gene Miller told ILTUWS.

The company offers both DIY products and onsite residential and commercial pest control, and has helped eradicate all the gross little critters you can think of: rats, mice, cockroaches, bed bugs, moths, fleas, termites … everything. They are also FAST, offering same-day service as infestations are typically emergencies.

Broadway Pest Services’ Google score of 4.9 out of 5 stars (based on 329 reviews) is noteworthy, to say the least. Think about how angry you’d be if you paid a company to clear your home of vermin only to see them reappear a few weeks later. You’d be furious! But this company’s customers can rest easy, according to everything they’ve written.

“Broadway Pest Services are fantastic,” says David D. “Over the past 20 years our coop has worked with an endless number of exterminators but none of them come close to Broadway.”

“I had used another provider before I was referred to Broadway,” writes Jill S. “The last provider treated my place and I still had a problem. Broadway’s service technician came, was polite, professional, and the problem was gone after one visit.”

“I had a clothes moth problem that persisted for months, but Miguel came to the rescue!” exclaims Hannah D. “He was very knowledgeable and thorough, and showed me what to look for if it happens again. It’s been three months, and I haven’t seen any—amazing!! Thanks Miguel for taking care of it!”

While customers have been loyal and business has been great, keeping up with UWS retail rents has been extremely difficult.

“It had become a real challenge to keep our store open, and we even tried to have the Icery next door to cover some of the expense of having retail rent in this neighborhood,” Miller told us. “In the end, nothing could get us to afford the rent moving forward.”

Enter their new space in Harlem, which you can get to quickly by taking the express 2 train to 110th and Lenox. The rent is affordable and Miller hopes to serve his customers for another 25 years and beyond.
