A popular bakery with locations throughout the city (and two in Canada) appears to be expanding to the UWS, as a business filing for “Maman Lincoln Center” has recently gone online – though an exact location has not been specified. (Thanks to ‘Upper West Sider’ for the tip).
Maman also just announced on its Instagram page that it will be opening on the Upper East Side – and when someone replied with a request to “come to the UWS” – their response was that they’re “working on it.” AND, they later shared the story on their IG page, so that pretty much seems like a confirmation (thanks @cynstahgram).
We’ve also reached out to Maman’s press folks for more info but haven’t yet heard back from them. The French bakery and cafe first opened in 2014, when founders Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall set up shop in Soho. They’ve now got locations throughout Downtown Manhattan, as well as a couple in Brooklyn.
Maman offers sandwiches, salads, breakfast plates, plenty of coffees and teas – but they’re likely best known for their Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie, which has gotten a whole lot of praise from the press.
While I’m not sure they can beat Levain in any kind of cookie competition, the title of a 2019 post by Secret NYC indicated these cookies might be the best in the city, and they’ve received equal admiration from Grub Street, Food & Wine, and even Oprah (she complimented other cookies they have as well).
We’ll keep you posted on the future of Maman on the UWS.
