Signage is up for Maman at 152 Columbus Avenue, between 66th and 67th streets – marking the French bakery and cafe’s second location to open on the Upper West Side.

Maman — which is most popular for its Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie — landed on the UWS in October 2021, opening a shop at 429 Amsterdam Ave between 80th and 81st streets (formerly home to Vai). This was the expanding bakery’s tenth location. In the last year, it also opened on the Upper East Side, and the forthcoming UWS spot will be NYC shop # 13.

Maman serves a variety of pastries, croissants, sandwiches, soups, salads, coffees and teas; but the cookie mentioned above has been celebrated the most by food writers and civilian cookie fans alike.
Media praise has come from the likes of Secret NYC, which says the Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie “may” be the best in the city; Grub Street, which calls them “New York’s Most Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies;” and Oprah, whose 2017 list of favorite things included multiple Maman cookies.
But can it stand up against Levain?
According to an early March Facebook post by Lincoln Square BID, Maman is hoping to open this location by the end of the month. We’ve reached out to Maman for a target opening date; they told us they’ll be making the announcement on Instagram @_mamannyc_. We’ll also provide an update once we know more!
