Murder may be down citywide but not around here.
The legislatures have opened a pandora’s box in their attempt to experiment with the system. Unfortunately, they only get rewarded for their ‘far-sighted’ thinking while regular citizens die.
Three felony prison terms and out on the street. This is the problem. Recidivism has to be addressed.
The real problem here is the “Yale Hotel” (this building) is a quasi-legal SRO masquerading as a hotel with no NYCHA oversight – the building is a constant source of problems and deaths, both violent like this and overdoses/suicides. It makes the Volunteers of America-run building across the street at 305 look like a well-run monastery in comparison. Yale/316 should be shut down or taken over by the city so at least that way it will be mismanaged by someone who will let the cops in and install cameras.
I live in this building. This vortex of evil is so hard to live in. The few good people who live here who actually suffer this horrific situation need the city and our community to raise awareness and actually do something about this building and the hundreds like it throughout the city. The city pays well over 1500 a month to house me and many others to live here in emergency housing which is supposed to be temporary?! I don’t even have a private shower with a toilet in the same room to poop in y’all. The mayor is so focused on the migrants who live better than people living with HIV who need higher healthy living conditions to maintain health who were here first. Please help us and bring up the quality of life standard of living and safety we once knew. The un accountability and neglect from the owner and staff of this building is unbelievable. My neighbor kicked in my door while dead bolted mind you. entered my apartment with a hammer and god willing he actually didn’t attack me. the Police took over ten minutes to arrive without any urgency for my safety. Reluctantly and by a fluke he was arrested and then released without bail. my door remained busted in with out repair a week later with my neighbor just down the hall free to kill me if he wanted too. the DA has not even followed up still with this case. I had to remain home with my unhinged neighbor basically barricaded in my own home waiting for the lock repair to a door that is still very easy to kick in and enter my room. A week later. I know if I called 311 or hasa, my room would be likely closed out with no reason as to why. I know they would find out even if it was anonymously reported for any reason a person might need to use 311 for help with the endless violations the building has. I have seen so many people just removed for being a problem to a problem of Hasa and The NYPD and HRA. This is evil. From No cameras to suicides and ODs and Demonic activity the violence or threat there of to people living here.
The folks with illnesses ranging from depression and addiction through to the criminally insane cannot be allowed no supervision, as “appealing” as that seems…
I agree with Taylor’s comment. This place has been a serious problem for years. Hardly a day passes when emergency responders haven’t been called to this facility, and often it more than once a day. check out the 911 calls and 24 Precinct records to confirm this fact. This place represents a dangerous threat to its unfortunate inhabitants as well as to the neighborhood. I, too, partially attribute the frequency and nature of the criminal activity that takes place on its premises to poor management. CB7, Gale Brewer, Social Services, the new Commander of the 24 Precinct, please step in and do something to turn this place around to become a safe and law abiding place for its inhabitants and for our neighborhood.
