A man jumped in front of an oncoming 2 train at the 72nd Street subway station this morning.
It happened at about 10:00 a.m. and police told Patch that the man appeared to be in his fifties.
The conductor was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the man. He was taken by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside where police tell us he was later pronounced deceased.
The MTA announced train delays following the incident.

My heart goes out to the poor engineer running that train. This type of suicide has to take a toll on their psyche
A selfish and narcissistic suicide.
So sad that you would react this way with no knowledge of the situation at all. Tells me a lot about you though. How dare you judge any person’s death?
What do you need to know about the situation? This person traumatized the train driver and anyone else on the platform and delayed thousands of people. That is a fact.
You’re selfish for not considering the conductor and everyone else who had to witness this.
“How dare you judge someone’s death” ???
We all have a right to our opinion ! How dare YOU judge another persons opinion!!!
I dare, too, Scott. This was an act of pure selfishness. It is one thing to choose to end your own life – after all it is your life, but hurting others doing it is a craven act. Consider giving your self-righteousness a rest.
I don’t think that a person who is bent on killing himself/herself considers others. Evidence for example: the pilot who killed everyone when he put his airplane in a deep, fast dive.
Anther example. I know someone who decided to kill himself by turning on the car engine after he closed the garage doors. Unfortunately what he did killed all the other persons in his house due to carbon monoxide that spread throughout his house. That happened when I was 10 in a very nice suburb not too far from New York City. I don’t like houses that have garages that are inside them
My half brother killed himself in 2000 by shooting himself with a pistol; nobody was around. So nobody else was killed or injured fortunately.
Tragic story, and victim inconvenienced thousands of others, so, yes, he was narcissistic. The transit employees on the train are the train operator in the front, not thr conductor or engineer. The conductor is in the middle and controls the doors.
Three guys did this in Manhattan yesterday. I think going back to work after the July 4th break is hard for some people.
