Manhattanhenge 2023 Begins Tonight

Wrap up your holiday weekend by enjoying this annual weather event.

The first Manhattanhenge of the year will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at 8:13 p.m., when a half-sun will create a perfectly aligned sunset with Manhattan’s street grid. A full sun event will take place on Tuesday at 8:12pm, though an Accuweather forecast states that “The shield of clouds is projected to continue its northward advance, increasing the likelihood of obscured views.”

Manhattanhenge will return on July 12 and 13.

The American Museum of Natural History recommends finding a spot as far east as possible that still has views of New Jersey over the Hudson River, and while the suggested viewing spots are 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th streets, Upper West Siders have always enjoyed looking east from 79th and Columbus Avenue. West 72nd Street is also a popular viewing destination.
