Governor Cuomo has announced that beginning Wednesday, May 19, New York state will adopt the CDC’s new indoor mask and social distancing guidance for those who’ve been fully vaccinated.
Effective Wednesday, NYS will adopt the CDC’s new mask & social distancing guidance for vaccinated people.
Unvaccinated people should continue to wear a mask.
Masks will still be required on public transit, in schools & some communal settings. Private venues may require masks.

The new CDC guidance, updated on May 16, states that “Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.”
According to the CDC, individuals are considered fully vaccinated either “2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines” or “2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.”
In other Monday updates, the MTA resumes 24/7 subway service today, and the New York City Marathon will return on November 7, with registration opening June 8.
How will we know that a person or persons are indeed vaccinated???
I guess we wont know unless we ask, and even then we won’t know if the person is being honest.
Excellent question! You could always try asking this of the maskless: “Have you been vaccinated, or are you a Republican?” That ought to work in most cases, right?
I took a taxi yesterday and the driver was unmasked. When I asked why, he pointed to the partition, but then proceeded to put on his mask. I explained I was fully vaccinated, but hadn’t completed the two week wait. When asked, he said he had not been vaccinated because of Ramadan. I think taxi and Uber drivers should carry on wearing masks due to the close proximity in the car and their potential exposure if they’re not vaccinated.
