It seems like winter has just left us, and already it is Memorial Day Weekend! Luckily, it looks like we are in for some great weather this weekend, so make the best of it, kick off summer celebrations, and check out some of these events and activities on the Upper West Side!

On Saturday, May 23rd, the American Museum of Natural History on 79th Street and Central Park West will be showcasing Spotlight Asia: Big Cats, which is a family-friendly day that will include hands-on activities, theater, and musical performances revolving around big cats and their culture throughout Asia. You will be able to ask experts questions about big cats such as tigers, lions, leopards, and jaguars, take a tour with select artists and scientists, and design a tiger shadow puppet with Chinese Theatre Works. This will be a fun and educational event for people of all ages, and is free with museum admission! It will be held from 12:00-5:00pm. Visit http://www.amnh.org/calendar/spotlight-asia-big-cats for more information.

Stop by the 79th Street Greenmarket, on Sunday May 24th, located from 77th street to 80th street on Columbus Avenue from 8:00am-5:00pm. Perfect for all types of foodies, you will find grass-fed beef, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, baked goods, cheeses, breads, seafood, and more! Trust me, you will not leave these tents empty handed!

Afterwards, head over to the playground on 77th Street and Columbus Avenue from 10:00am-5:30pm for GreenFlea Market, which has been operating for over 25 years, and one of the first open air markets in the city. It features a wide range of selections, from antique collectibles and furniture, to CD’s, to hand crafted jewelry and clothing. Everyone will find something great at this Market, all while enjoying the beautiful weather!

Celebrate the Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th at the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument on 86th and Riverside Drive from 10:00-12:00pm. This free event will be a time to come together in memory of all of those who have served our country. This annual ceremony has become the largest in the city. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy will speak, and the United States Military Band will play.
