Underground Bar Opens in Columbus Circle Station

Last modified on January 30th, 2020

A new bar called Merchants’ Gate has opened in the Turnstyle Underground Market at the Columbus Circle subway station. Eater.com first announced their opening, which was last week.

The new West Side bar serves old-school New York City street foods like pretzels and hot dogs.

The Eater article says the bar will be focused on beer and wine during the day, but will aim to transition to a cocktail lounge at night.

The owners are Joshua Friedman and Brian Stapleton; they also own NYC bars Craft + Carry, Plug Uglies and Finnerty’s.

The vintage design comes with no shortage of subway tile and seems pretty spacious.

Here’s a quick glance at the pricing:

  • Draft beers (five taps): $10
  • Cans: $8 to $10
  • Wine: $11 to $13
  • Cocktails: $16
  • Snacks: $7 to 9
