New Soup Dumpling Spot Opening on UWS

A new dumpling spot is coming to the Upper West Side.

TradedNYC and Silver Line Realty group recently announced that Nan Xiang Soup Dumpling would be opening at 2783 Broadway between 107th and 108th streets. According to the real estate publication and commercial brokerage, the 1,400 square-foot spot was leased at $160 per foot for a grand total of $224,000 per year.

ILTUWS has reached out to the broker to confirm the client. We haven’t heard back yet, however, this appears to be another outpost of Nan Xiang Express Soup Dumplings, a chain with franchise locations across the East Coast (which also seems to be on the verge of a major NYC expansion).

The restaurant’s menu has a variety of options including noodles, soups and fried rice cakes. However, it’s no surprise that the menu is dominated by dim sum including four types of their namesake soup dumplings.

Express is the key word when it comes to this restaurant. The existing locations are not focused on eat-in, primarily offering take out and delivery. So if you want a quick bite for the road, this may be your spot, but if you’re looking for atmosphere, best to look somewhere else.

The space was leased for a whopping 15 years, so assuming they can make enough to stay profitable, it looks like Nan Xiang is going to be a mainstay of the neighborhood for a long time. The location is currently a laundromat, though it isn’t clear if they plan to move out, Nan Xiang will take up residence somewhere else in the building, or the two will split the spot. (We called the laundromat but the person we spoke with didn’t have any details.) We’ll update this post as we learn more.
