Newer Sounds Music Festival on the Upper West Side T
he good people over at New Sounds Music, responsible for the many great festivities that take place year round on the Upper West Side, are celebrating their 2 year anniversary with an evening festival showcasing some of their favorite artists this Friday, February 7th at Hostelling International
, 891 Amsterdam Ave.
The sight of many of their celebrated musical gatherings and one that’s always conducive to the atmosphere that this music creates. Newer Sounds always does a wonderful job of showcasing much of NYC’s young talent, bands that are getting out there on the grind and itching to earn themselves some stripes and a following in the city. For those that enjoy seeing the gleam in a young band’s eyes and following them on their path, this is a great opportunity to discover some raw emerging talent, setting out to strike their mark on the New York scene.
The event will get rolling at 6:45pm with psychedlic indie rockers, Fulcrum Of The Stars. Following them with a HEAVY dose of brass will be the Rad Trads, who’s horn section will most likely have the whole block shakin’. From there the mic will be passed to hip-hop ensemble, Soul Cannon, who’ll be dropping rhymes on top of live instrumentation. Next, in proper Newer Sounds eclectic booking fashion, will be the Morningsiders, a great string band with rock n roll sensibilities. That rock n roll sensibility will remain onstage after with BAAM! but will be interpreted through big band arrangements, which will no doubt get the crowd moving. Closing out this full evening of music will be Your Sister’s Canary, spewing out their modern garage-style indie rock. Always the gracious hosts, Newer Sounds and Hostelling International also include a few free beers in the $10 ticket price. Now tell me where you can find a better deal than that in NYC? This will be a great event on the Upper West Side and a great way to discover some of the freshest new bands the city has to offer!
