The Curfew is Now 8pm

On Monday, June 1st, Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio put a city-wide, 11pm curfew in place, which was lifted at 5am on Tuesday morning. As the curfew did not seem to slow down the citywide looting which has been taking place, it has been announced that a new curfew – from 8pm to 5am – will be in place through Sunday.

While many have been peaceful, like those on the UWS, certain areas have seen looting, vandalism and arson. The Governor and Mayor have also announced that they will be doubling the police presence in areas which have seen the greatest amount of property damage.

“I stand behind the protestors and their message, but unfortunately there are people who are looking to distract and discredit this moment,” Governor Cuomo said. “The violence and the looting has been bad for the city, the state and this entire national movement, undermining and distracting from this righteous cause. While we encourage people to protest peacefully and make their voices heard, the safety of the general public is paramount and cannot be compromised. Tonight the Mayor and I are implementing a citywide curfew starting at 11pm and doubling the NYPD presence across the city. “

      I have the same question, and I can’t get a straight answer from 311 or my local precinct other than “The curfew is 8:00 p.m., and it would be best to walk your dog before then!!! Does anyone have a brain?

      I plan on walking my dog around 10pm, from the police officer’s I’ve spoken to on the subject, the worst they can do is instruct you to go home.

    Yeah I get it, but this is just further constricting the bulk of the population in NYC who do not deserve this. Can we go out together and help police by beating the shit out of looters? And I ask this as a short woman.. they are hijacking protesters, they are hijacking everyone. We are being distracted from our core disease of racism, along with virus by a small percentage of real assholes.

    All of A sudden whatever happened to social distancing and Covid-19?
    Do you see anyone being arrested for breaking
    the Social distancing rules???
    Especially the looters, Sabotaging of businesses and arsonists are not accosted. Just be A regular
    harmless Pedestrian and you may be attacked.
